Samsung Group has announced the development of a video-on-demand streaming app called Project Glued, name isn’t very fascinating, but it’s not an official name. With the news means, the Korean giant has intentions to enter into the content market in part of Southeast Asia with this entertainment app.

Dubbed Project Glued, the service will be unveiling next quarter in Singapore and the Philippines, targeting the base of owners of Galaxy smartphones and tablets to get more devices getting support at a later day. A web-based app will be launched too and so will a dedicated client for Samsung TVs.

The Glued is offering to access TV shows for $6.50 per month for one season. Apart from streaming, users can also be able to download episodes to watch later in free time. The first episode of every show will be given for free on Samsung hoping that users will be bowed and eventually intend to pay for full access. The service will also make users to be able to share seasons with up to six friends who will also be able to access them for 24 hours.

As Southeast Asia is consist of very different countries and cultures, and with different language. So, what may work for one country is likely to not work for another one. By considering two primarily English speaking countries as launch markets, Samsung may be considering that the more westernized tastes can attract early customers.

The absence of services like Netflix and Hulu makes it difficult for most people in Asia to legally watch US and UK-based shows. It will be Samsung’s large footprint and presuming a big marketing push, major studios can get a new source of revenue for them, all while showing great content to Samsung device owners. We’ll see how far that goes.
